Website Development

Introduction

I have over two years experience in website development and maintenance both here in the UK and Australia. I am currently based in the South West of England.

I am available to work with your business to design and build a site that has both form and function. I can tailor packages to suite most types of business and budgets. Cost will depend on the complexity of the project.

For me website development started out as a passionate hobby and I really enjoy building quality and exciting sites which bring customer satisfaction. I also enjoy keeping abreast with the latest standards and technology.

Initial Design

My aim is to build a site that reflects your business whilst marrying form with function. I build colourful and intresting sites that are intuitive to navigate and use.

To begin with it is a good idea to have a think about what is the purpose of your website and whether you plan to add more features or information overtime. It is often a good idea to find out what your customers may want from your website.

It is also useful to check out your competitors websites to gauge the competition and have a think about where we can 'add value' to your customers experience.

Building your Site

I build sites using standards compliant XHTML and CSS. I also use measured doses of Flash, JavaScript, PHP and XML. Sites are constructed to allow quick and easy modifications and upgrades. If required I can build a site around a content mangement system such as Joomla or Wordpress to allow you to easily update and modify your site.

I can seamlessly inegrate 'off the shelf' scripts and applications into your site design saving both time and money - examples include directory scripts, polls, forums, survey modules, shopping carts, payment gateways and genealogy databases.

Testing your Site

Once the site has been built it will be extensively tested and validated to ensure it works correctly and that there are no obvious spelling or grammar errors. I make sure that sites function correctly in the latest versions of Internet Explorer, Firefox and Google Chrome browsers.

This is a useful time to have a consultation about any last minute changes or additions to the site to ensure you are completely happy.

Going Live

Once you are completely happy with your site then it can be put up on to the world wide web. If required I can provide advice regarding hosting, or you may be able to host the site yourself. Once up, the site can then be submitted to all of the popular search engines and we can also discuss marketing strategies. I can also produce a website policy/procedure detailing instructions on site structure, how to update the site as well as all relevant usernames and passwords.

I am happy provide training to enable you or your staff to keep your own site up-to-date or alternatively I can offer a timely and value-for-money website maintenance service.

Further Information

Costs will depend on the complexity of the project - it is possible to build a quality website to suit all budgets. If required I can offer a fixed price package to suit you budget.

I aim to be clear about all potential costs and fees and be up front regarding these throughout your project. I will aim to deliver the completed project within the agreed timeframe.

Website Maintenance

Out of date websites are a complete turn off. I can build websites which include a content management system so that you are able to maintain the site yourself. Alternatively you may like to contract me to perform website maintenance which is billed per hour and is charged in five minute blocks. Approximate times for various maintenance procedures are detailed on my current list of charges. You would just need to email me the new information and I would update the website within 24 hours. Whatever method you chose to keep your site up-to-date you would receive a hard copy of your website, all account access passwords and a personalised website maintenance procedure on the completion of your website.

Getting to Know Your Business: Other Services

So what do I know about your business?? In order for me to really get a good grasp of your business maybe you would like to contract me into your business for a few days or weeks before taking on the website and tackle some other jobs or tasks. I have a large skill set covering IT, administration, training, report writing, auditing and social marketing. Charges are negotiable and would depend on the type of work involved. SERVICES FOR CHARITIES AND COMMUNITY BASED ORGANISATIONS

I am offering a free web design and maintenance service to local reputable charities and community based organisations. I would be prepared to help design, build and maintain the site as a free community service. After the initial build I would be prepared to spend up to half an hour per week (per charity) maintaining the site. Your charity or organisation would just need to arrange somewhere to host the site and also to register the domain name. You will also need to provide or work with me to create the content.

PHOTOGRAPHIC SERVICES

I am a keen amateur photographer and enjoy taking photographs of people, animals, social events, landscapes, wildlife and architecture. I have access to professional equipment including studio lighting. In order to gain more experience and build up my portfolio I would be happy to take photographs at events for charities and community organisations for free and may also be willing to do weddings and/or other events at cost. For me, website development is a passionate interest. I enjoy it and I also enjoy pleasing people and showing off my ability! I trade under my own name and will rely on the positive experiences of clients to help gain further work.

Transparency

I obviously want all my clients to be pleased with the website that I develop and pride myself in providing the kind of customer service to others that I also like to enjoy. I will be upfront and honest with all costs and charges. All "small print" will be in large print and what is included/not included will be clearly outlined. Your estimate and invoice will include clear descriptions of all costs and/or charges. On completion of your website you will receive a hard copy of your website, all account access passwords and a detailed and personalised website maintenance procedure.

Contributing to Society

I enjoy the feeling of contributing to the wider society and assisting those who are less fortunate than myself, hence my charity offer (see "services for charities"). I will also donate 10% of any fee to a pre-nominated charity.
